Gilead Sciences was founded by Dr. Michael L. Riordan in 1987, at the age of 29. He was CEO of the company from 1987 to 1996, and served as Chairman from 1993 to 1997, when he retired from the company. Riordan studied medicine at Johns Hopkins and did a business degree at Harvard.
