Perry Mason never had a car phone. They weren't invented yet when the books were written nor when the TV show was on the air. No one thought of such a thing as something we could have. By the way the first car phones were not rotary, but were buttons and the phone was in a bag. The entire bottom of the phone was a huge battery. I had one. --------------------------------------------------------------

Perry Mason himself might not have had a car phone but Paul Drake did. At least he was on his car phone in episode 226 "The Case of the Frustrated Folk Singer" (I just watched the episode).

Obviously someone did think of a car phone that far back
