deer,birds,and other small game Most deer are much too large for hunting with a .410. I wouldn't use one for anything larger than a possum or owl that's raiding the henhouse. The most common use in hunting is as a boy's (or girl's) first shotgun because it is lighter, usually shorter, and has less recoil. Of course, less powder and shot equals less hits and kills, so the kid gets discouraged and may never 'graduate' to a 12 gauge.
