The "big dog star," commonly known as Sirius, is the brightest star in the night sky and is part of the constellation Canis Major. It has a mass about 2.1 times that of the Sun and a radius approximately 1.7 times larger than the Sun. Sirius is actually a binary star system, consisting of Sirius A, a main-sequence star, and Sirius B, a white dwarf. Its distance from Earth is about 8.6 light-years.
