Why is Ronald McDonald called Ronald McDonald?

The McDonald's Restaurant originated from the two McDonald's brothers. Although it was subsequently taken over by Carl Karcher, then name stuck. Ronald McDonald's first name was presumably chosen because it rhymes with "Donald."
