In the archaeological site of Troy, multiple layers or levels of occupation have been identified, with at least nine significant levels, labeled Troy I through Troy IX. Each level represents different periods of settlement, from the earliest known habitation around 3000 BCE to the final destruction and abandonment of the city around the 3rd century BCE. The most famous level, Troy VI or VII, is often associated with the historical city of Homeric legend.
