Are sloths and spider monkeys related?

Sloths and spider monkeys are not closely related, as they belong to different taxonomic groups within the animal kingdom. Sloths are part of the order Pilosa and are more closely related to anteaters, while spider monkeys belong to the order Primates and are part of the family Atelidae. Despite both being found in Central and South America and sharing a similar habitat, their evolutionary paths diverged millions of years ago.
