How long does a female dog stay in heat?

Usually about three weeks. During the first week there is usually a pink discharge or droplets of blood. During the second week there is no discharge, but this is when she is most furtile. Just because you don't see a discharge doesn't mean she is done. From the first sighting of a discharge you should keep her away from other dogs for one month to prevent pregnancy.
