Why is the spotted dove a problem in Australia?

The spotted dove is native to Asia, and has become a feral problem in Australia. Being an exotic species, when it was brought to Australia, it brought new parasites and diseases against which native birds had no protection.

The spotted dove's greatest impact has been in the Northern Territory, where it competes with native species for food and habitat.
