The name "Kiwi" is derived from the latin root "kiwensis"
It origionally meant harsh warrior goes to river to catch fish. The name was applied to the fruit because they contain very similar aspects as one can easily tell.
Before it got the name "Kiwi" it was called "awonowhiew" (uh-wan-oh-HEE-oo) which loosely translated means "soft, furry rock" in Slurrian. The island of Slurri is where kiwis originated.
