What does blind spot mean?

The "blind spot" is the area outside a vehicle from the quarter panel (by the gas cap) to the back of the vehicle's door where you cannot see any approaching objects unless you turn.

The expression "check your blind spot" means to turn to face this area to check for oncoming objects.
