Seas are partially or completely enclosed parts of the ocean.

1 - By volcanic islands blocking part of the ocean

2 - Embryonic development of a future ocean. Example - Gulf of California, Red sea.

3 - Relict or remnant of an ancient sea. Example Mediterranean sea
