Is it OK to stain wood outside when its cold?

Staining should not be a problem in pollen season. Depending on how heavy it is in your area, varnishing could be an issue as the pollen will be in the finish. A little will brush off after drying, here, the cars turn green with it and I wouldn't recomend it.
