Notes from the underground plot summary?

"Notes from the Underground" is a novel that consists of notes, memoirs, and confessions from a Russian civil service veteran. He is anonymous as he narrates the story as the bitter, misanthropic man that he is. He lives alone in St. Petersburg, Russian in the 1860's and is retired due to inherited money. The memoirs are often contradictory and confused as the explain how he is or was alienated from modern society.
