Jean Shepherd, the American humorist and writer best known for his storytelling and the film "A Christmas Story," was born to a Jewish family in Chicago. His parents were Arthur and Esther Shepherd, and he had a younger sister named Ruth. Shepherd married a woman named Evelyn, but their marriage ended in divorce. He later had a romantic relationship with actress and writer Leigh Brown, who was also his collaborator.
