Yes, a 49 year old woman can conceive naturally if she is still menstruating. However, That does not make it safe. While the woman's eggs may be viable that doesn't mean they're healthy. By the time a woman turns 40 her chances of producing a child with Downs Syndrome increases exponentially. The risk of many other birth defects, pregnancy and health complications also rises. Pregnancy after the age of 40 also increases the health risks to the mother. So, even though a 49 year old woman CAN get pregnant, that does not mean they SHOULD. Adoption would be a much safer route for both the mother and child.
