Why was pottery a form of wealth?

Pottery helped civilization to flourish in many different ways one of which is decoration and holding objects.Pottery is still in use today and is used for things like the two listed above. One of the most important objects it held was water. It was also a projection of the adavancement of humans in the areas of art and provided a way to share not just what the pottery held, but what was on it. As crude as it was, in a way it made culture portable.
