Where did Alfred live and when did he live there?

Alfred the Great lived in England during the late 9th century, specifically from 849 to 899 AD. He spent much of his life in Wessex, a kingdom in southern England, where he became its king in 871. Alfred is known for his efforts to defend against Viking invasions and for promoting education and legal reform during his reign.
