Ernest Just was an influential African American biologist and educator known for his pioneering work in cell Biology and developmental biology. He was one of the first scientists to demonstrate the role of the egg cell in fertilization and embryo development. Just also faced significant racial barriers in his career, yet he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1916 and became a prominent advocate for the advancement of African American scientists. Additionally, he was a founding member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and contributed to the establishment of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
