Grasshoppers, like many other insects and invertebrates, breathe through a network of Tracheae that travels the length of their body. This network of Tracheae ends at the Spriacles where oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged and released. One might compare this to a human's circulation system for a better understanding. Spriacles are tiny holes are located on both sides on the exterior. Spiracles are controlled by muscles and have cilia like features to filter particles in and out. This is similar to the human nose.
