Where does a chick come from?

A chick comes from an egg laid by a hen. Inside the egg, the fertilized embryo develops over about 21 days through a process called incubation, during which the hen keeps the egg warm. Once fully developed, the chick hatches by breaking through the eggshell. This process is a key part of the reproductive cycle in birds.
