How many Americans died in auto accidents last year?

Actually over 37,000 Americans a year are killed in traffic accidents - more than have been killed in any American war! (except of course the American Civil War of 1861-1865 when approximately 625,000 died). This is shocking as it happens year after year like clockwork yet for some reason we have come to accept it as a given and it doesn't receive the attention or outrage that the news of war dead seems to produce.
