Besides plants and animals, other organisms that are made up of cells include fungi, which consist of complex cellular structures, and protists, a diverse group of mostly unicellular organisms. Bacteria and archaea also comprise cells, but they are prokaryotic, meaning their cells lack a defined nucleus. Additionally, viruses, while not considered living organisms in the traditional sense, are composed of genetic material enclosed in a protein coat and can infect living cells.
