I was bitten by a copperhead in 1981 on the foot. The bite immed. started swelling, lots of pain like a super bee sting that doesn't stop, next was the feeling of throwing up. I went to the ER and by then the area around the bite fangs were turning into blue red 50 cent piece. The ER tested the anivemon in my arm but the swelling was now all the way up my thigh. I received two injections one in each thigh. (5'6" and 100lbs). The leg was packed in ice and I was on an IV. the leg continued to swell and again another dose was given in my buttocks. By this time my foot was bigger than a football, and shinny tight with the swelling. I could not bend my toes, ankle or bend (very little ) my knee. At The fang site the skin and tissue turned black.

In the end I have loss the ability to bend my "PINKY" toe, I have constant pain like RSD in my foot. If I hike for several hours my foot swells some. Not sure if related but Since the bite I have been anemic, even with taking supplements, and a healthy diet. I exercise daily to keep the blood flow to the foot, to maintain healthy tissue, and keep the sensory nerves working. I do not want to let a vascular neuropathy set in.

The other weird thing, before snake bite if I got stung by a wasp I had a reaction of redness, swelling, pain and heat. Now... very little reaction. A slight prick feeling, no heat, no redness, and no swelling.

Hope this helps.
