Are there any birds of prey in southern California?

I'm sure there are. I was just in my backyard when I saw one. I'm trying to identify the species right now. It had yellowish orange legs, talons. White chest and a black/brown head. I want to say that it was some sort of a falcon. But I'm not sure.
