What bugs eat brick mortar?

Certain insects, such as termites and carpenter ants, can damage brick mortar indirectly by nesting in wooden structures nearby or by creating tunnels that compromise the integrity of the mortar. Additionally, some pests like powderpost beetles may infest wooden components adjacent to brick, but they do not directly consume the mortar itself. While brick and mortar are generally resistant to pests, moisture-related issues can attract mold and other organisms that may weaken mortar over time.
