By appealing to the readers senses and attempting to make him 'feel the way the writer intends him to feel.' Therefore the writer should give copious sensory clues involving all possible bodily senses. Most writing is concerned almost exclusively with visual descriptions (unfortunately) employment of the other senses, especially those lesser known and unexploited ones, makes for better verisimilitude.
