I consulted a database available remotely to Columbus Metropolitan Library patrons called Biography in Context. It contained several different biography articles compiled from various sources that detailed many aspects of Child's career. According to several different biographies that I read within the database, Julia started her own cooking school in 1952 after finishing her own studies at Le Cordon Bleu in France. She was assisted in this by two French friends: Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle. Julia's cooking school was called L'Ecole des Trois Gourmandes and sought to teach French cooking to Americans. She was also working on publishing a cookbook during this time which did eventually come to print in 1961. After her cookbook was published, she was approached by the Cambridge, MA television station WGBH and her famous cooking show was born. Julia cooked on TV from 1963-2000 and passed away in August 2004. Her kitchen was donated to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. and is on display in the National Museum of American History.
