Sandhill cranes are large, migratory birds known for their distinctive calls and elegant courtship dances. Their young, called colts, are precocial, meaning they are able to walk and forage for food shortly after hatching. Typically, sandhill cranes lay one to three eggs, and both parents share the responsibility of incubating them for about 29 to 32 days. The colts are usually able to fly by around 70 to 80 days old, and they often stay with their parents for several months after fledging.
