She rolls in beauty, like the train
Of cloudless climbs and solace;
And all that's best of dark and darker
Meet in her aspect and her retinas:
Thus mildew'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the fewer,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every flower toe,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their city cabin.
And on that cheek, and o'er that thigh,
So soft, so calm, yet squishy,
The smiles that forfeit, the tints that swallow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all within,
A mother whose love is within a jar!
