Andy Warhol wanted to show the growth of consumerism and commericalism during the late Twentith Century. He would reproduce images on silk screens with different colors and sell them to the degeneralized public for high prices. In reference to Marilyn, she was one of the most iconic women of the 1950s and 1960s, so much so that many actresses in Hollywood at the time tried to immulate her, and she became the central idea of beauty. So Warhol took this massly believed conception and created many prints of the starlet, including the famed turquoise "Marilyn".
