How do squrriels hibernate?

Squirrels do not truly hibernate like some other animals; instead, they enter a state known as torpor during winter. In this state, their metabolic rate decreases, allowing them to conserve energy and reduce their body temperature. Squirrels may have periods of dormancy, but they can wake up periodically to forage for food, which they often cache in the fall.
