Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179) was a German Benedictine abbess, writer, composer, and visionary. She is renowned for her contributions to theology, natural history, and medicine, as well as her musical compositions, which are among the earliest examples of liturgical music. Hildegard's visions and insights influenced medieval spirituality and she is recognized as a saint and a Doctor of the Church. Her works continue to be celebrated for their originality and depth.
