Perching birds tell us that birds have a sociological structure due to the fact that they perch in groups. Like families they stick together. This means that sociological structures are simple to understand (even birds can) or that birds are very smart. I think the latter of the two.
On a less serious note:
There are also "perch potatoes" or pet birds that cannot fly because their wings are clipped. They get fat because they lack exercise.
Birds that are not in the wild sometimes can becomeaggressiveso they should have their wings clipped. This allows them to love their owner more than their natural love for flying.
