Why do raccoons have paws?

They have paws for the same reason we have hands... They use them. Obviously though they don't walk around on two legs (although they can stand upright SOMETIMES) but they use their paws to walk on. They have claws for the same reason we have nails. Most of the time, they use their claws to scratch or to hunt food.
