Sloths primarily inhabit the trees of tropical rainforests, where they spend most of their lives hanging upside down from branches. While they do occasionally come down to the forest floor to urinate or change trees, they are not adapted for life on the ground and are vulnerable to predators when on the forest floor. Their slow movements and specialized diet of leaves make them well-suited for a life in the canopy rather than on the ground.
