What is the meaning of inscription in a prescription?

The inscription is the portion of the prescription that specifies the medication. For instance, if I wrote:

Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg #30 sig 1 po qd ref x3

Then "Hydrocholorothiazide 12.5 mg" is the inscription.
