The two Word form is used in the Vietnamese language, where the combined republic established in 1976 is "Cong hòa xã hoi chu nghĩa Viet Nam". In current English usage, the single Word form "Vietnam" is more common. During the Vietnam War, the terms were used interchangeably, e.g. South Vietnam and South Viet Nam.
