Piranhas bite primarily as a defense mechanism, to protect their territory, or when they feel threatened. They are also opportunistic feeders, biting when they see potential food sources, especially in groups. Their sharp teeth allow them to efficiently tear through flesh, making them effective predators in their natural habitats. Additionally, during certain times, such as droughts when food is scarce, piranhas may exhibit more aggressive feeding behaviors.
