Wolves were hunted and a bounty was offered for every wolf killed throughout the medieval period - the last wolf in England is said to have been killed at Humphrey Head in Cumbria in the 14th century. A bounty was still being offered in remote parts of Yorkshire in the 19th century, but there is no record of it being claimed.
