How can you become a volunteer?

Except for military service, you become a volunteer by offering your services at no charge to an organization or individual. [You volunteer for military service by offering to serve, but if you are accepted, you are paid for your service.]

The easiest way to volunteer is to find a non-profit organization in your area and tell them you are interested in helping out as a volunteer. These organizations depend on volunteers and are always looking for more help. Some national organizations to check out are: ASPCA, Habitat For Humanity, Local Food Banks and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

If you are interested specifically in volunteering with animals, check out your local animal shelters, rescue groups and pounds.
