Per Christine Torralba of Android Authority, there have been cases in the last five years in which a cell phone caused injury to the user due to overcharging the battery, some of which happened while the cell phone was continuing to charge. According to the article, a 2008 incident in Nepal happened to a 16 year old girl who was using her phone while charging it. She lost consciousness and died on her way to the hospital.
