Triceratops is a genus of herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur which lived during the late Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous Period, around 68 to 65 million years ago (mya) in what is now North America The earth would have looked very different at this time with no humans or and very few mamals. Flowering plants were starting to appear at this time however weren't yet widespread, their evolution was aided by the appearance of bees. The first representatives of many leafy trees, including figs, planes and magnolias, appeared in the Cretaceous. At the same time, some older spicies such as conifers continued to thrive. On land mammals were a small and still relatively minor component, the wildlife dominated by reptiles, especially dinosaurs, which were at their most diverse. Birds were just starting to appear as competition for Pterosaurs In the seas, rays, modern sharks and teleosts became common. Marine reptiles included ichthyosaurs in the early and middle of the Cretaceous, plesiOSaurs throughout the entire period, and mosasaurs in the Late Cretaceous.
