What is the difference between lt and ls in gm motors?

The Lt was the second generation small block, it first came in the corvette in 92 I believe and ended in 96 or 97 when it was replaced with the ls. In my opinion it wasn't very good.

Also the reverse cooling system and the "optispark" Distributor being under the water pump didn't make much sense.
