it is nicknamed Lonesome George it is the rarest animal in the world and is probaly the last living memberof its species they are big enough to ride on the males can be four feet long and weigh five hundred pounds the tortoises were over hunted in the 1800s by sailors who caught them by the thousands and took them on board for food
