The active ingredient carbaryl in a pesticide controls the asparagus beetle.
Specifically, it may be applied as a wettable powder or as a dust. Either way, it is used on the spears during harvest. There needs to be a three-day wait between applications. But there is just a one-day wait between application and harvest.
Carbaryl is an effective control. One problem in its use is its high toxicity for area bee populations. As a dust, it may drift and stick onto the pollen of nearby plants in bloom. Consequently, it is brought into the hive, where the pollen that the carbaryl dust contaminates may be the cause of high fatality rates among the hive's inhabitants.
