To adjust the ignition timing in a Studebaker, first locate the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the timing tab on the engine. Use a timing light connected to the number one spark plug wire to illuminate the marks while the engine is running. Loosen the distributor hold-down bolt, then rotate the distributor slightly to advance or retard the timing as needed. Once the desired timing is achieved, tighten the hold-down bolt and recheck the timing if necessary.
