What is the difference between direct contact infection and droplet infection?

Direct contact infection occurs when pathogens are transmitted through physical touch between an infected individual and a susceptible host, such as through skin-to-skin contact or contact with contaminated surfaces. In contrast, droplet infection involves the spread of pathogens via respiratory droplets expelled when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, which can then be inhaled by someone nearby. While direct contact requires close proximity, droplet infection can occur at a slightly greater distance, typically within about 1 to 2 meters.
