In metropolitan areas such as New York, Los Angeles, Texas and Honolulu, the market is oversaturated. Furthermore, incomes of orthodontists specialist have gone down overall due to a shrinking pool of consumers secondary to the current economic state and the increase in orthodontic services being offered by general dentists. Openings for associate positions are also few and far between. In order to succeed as an orthodontist, you have to be driven to open up your own clinics in multiple locations (as one location will be unlikely to recruit enough consumers) and understand that it will be several years before you can consider yourself established.
