In 1560, Mary, Queen of Scots, was the reigning monarch of Scotland. She became queen when she was just six days old, following the death of her father, James V of Scotland. However, she faced significant political challenges and was eventually forced to abdicate in 1567. At the same time, Elizabeth I was the queen of England, having ascended to the throne in 1558.
